Social media marketing tools help you create your posts, track engagement, and ensure your message lands with the target audience. But not all social media marketing tools work the same way, and some have more capabilities than others. We put together a list of the best ones to show you what they do and offer some tips on how to choose the best one for you.

Promeo supports your social media marketing with AI tools that guide you through the content creation process. Promeo also covers copywriting with the AI Cowriter, and the Brand Kit features help you stay consistent in your messaging and design.

With Promeo, you can create posts for all your brand social accounts faster without losing quality. Prompt the software with your ideas, and it will generate design options and copy you can use and refine for your brand. Promeo even has batch editing, so you can resize, change your product background, and put together several posts at once for a cohesive and efficient process.

Promeo releases new features monthly, so you can try out the latest tools and see which ones support your content creation best. We put this product at #1 for its wide selection of AI content creation tools and its branding features. It’s an excellent tool for helping you with one of the most challenging parts of running your business, keeping you on top of your marketing and giving you room to get back to the rest of your business.

2. MyEdit

Pros
  • Has a complete AI Marketing Studio

  • Can create on-brand headshots
Cons
  • No social media scheduling and tracking features
  • No branding kit to save preferences

Key Features

  • AI Marketing Studio

  • Product Photo Upscaler

Social Media Marketing Tool Rating: 5/5

*Premium subscription available for $4/month

When we tested MyEdit, we found it ideal for small businesses and solopreneurs selling products online. Its features are geared toward eCommerce, and with its AI Marketing Studio, you can refine every aspect of your social posts in one place.

The AI Marketing Studio has features like the Background Changer, Magic Eraser, and Product Photo Upscaler that help you create branded images for a consistent feed. You can also make a professional branded headshot to use on your website, socials, and other online platforms to have a recognizable persona for your brand.

Like Promeo, MyEdit releases new features monthly, so you always have the latest tools to build your brand. It has a lot of similar image editing and AI features to Promeo, but we put it at #2 because it doesn’t have the complete branding kit features Promeo does.

3. Sprout Social

Sprout Social Interface

Best For: Social Media Scheduling and Management

Pros
  • Has tools for creating and publishing posts on the platform
  • Can track engagement and other analytics
Cons
  • Limited tools for designing posts
  • Expensive for small businesses

Key Features

  • Compose tool
  • Post scheduling
  • Analytics tracking

Social Media Marketing Tool Rating: 4/5

Price: 30-day free trial - Premium subscription available for $249 per seat/mo

Sprout Social has a full suite of social media marketing tools to help you create, schedule, and track your posts. We found that it’s better for established businesses because of the high price, but it’s useful if you publish a lot of content and want to see your analytics.

While you do have to do the bulk of the work putting together your post before you upload it to the platform, we found that Sprout Social still has several tools for publishing your posts. You can make basic edits to your posts using the Compose feature. But Sprout Social’s strength lies in being able to schedule several posts across 5 or more accounts and track engagement. It even has automation tools to cut down on the time you spend doing repetitive tasks.

Based on our review, we put Sprout Social at #3, since it doesn’t have as many post creation tools as Promeo and MyEdit. Still, it has a lot of scheduling, analytics, and automation features Promeo and MyEdit don’t have. Sprout Social operates more on the management side of your marketing, so whether it’s right for you depends on what kind of marketing tools you need.

4. Buffer

Buffer Interface

Best For: Organizing Content Before Posting

Pros
  • Has organization tools and labels
  • Can collaborate with team or use AI to create content
Cons
  • Few graphic design tools
  • Limited AI content creation features

Key Features

  • Post Organization
  • AI Assistant
  • Social Media Analytics

Social Media Marketing Tool Rating: 3/5

Price: Free - Premium subscription available for $5/mo

Buffer lets you sort and label your posts based on topic, platform, and content type. If you like to plan your content, Buffer makes that easier since you can categorize each piece and always know where they are in the creation and posting process.

We found that Buffer’s organizational tools help streamline social media marketing, and its AI Assistant helps you get more ideas for what to post. It cuts down on brainstorming and writing time, so you can create and schedule more posts in advance. When we tested the product, we also found its social media analytics helps with staying on top of engagement and post performance, so you know what your audience wants to see more often.

While Buffer is a solid tool for organization and tracking, it doesn’t have as many design resources as Promeo and MyEdit. We put it at #4 because, while it has many of the same features as Sprout Social, it also has fewer AI tools. Still, it has great organization features, plenty of performance tracking, and is more affordable than Sprout Social.

5. Hootsuite

Hootsuite Interface

Best For: Tracking Analytics and Engagement

Pros
  • Comprehensive post creation and scheduling features
  • Advanced analytics and engagement tools
Cons
  • Expensive for small businesses
  • Steep learning curve for first-time users

Key Features

  • OwlyWriter AI
  • Social Media Analytics
  • Engagement Tools

Social Media Marketing Tool Rating: 4/5

Price: 30-day free trial - Premium subscription available for $99 per user/mo

Hootsuite is a popular tool for established businesses that want to increase engagement and track their posts. With its social media analytics, you always know what your audience wants to see, how your posts perform, and even find out the best times to post for the most engagement. You can spend less time trying to figure out what to post with Hootsuite’s guidance, making social media marketing less uncertain.

Hootsuite’s OwlyWriter AI tool generates ideas and post captions. We found that it also gives information about industry trends to keep you on top of popular searches. As we tested the product, we noticed how much more in-depth Hootsuite goes with analytics than most other social media marketing tools. Beyond engagement, it also has social listening, social advertising, and inbox tools for more complete insights into your marketing.

While Hootsuite is a fantastic tool for social media marketing, we put it at #5 because it’s pricey and harder to use than any of the other tools on this list. If you can learn it, it can be a great asset. But if you’re looking for something you can start using right away, Hootsuite may not be for you.

How to Choose a Tool for Social Media Marketing

If you want your marketing to reach your target audience, you need tools that help you create and share your social media content in the right places. Below are a few things to consider before you choose a social media marketing tool.

Social Media Platform Compatibility - You want to make sure the tool you choose is compatible with the platforms you use most. Some software has settings and templates that aren’t as well suited for video or don’t have AI text generation features, so they have limited use for businesses that need them.

Design and Copy Tools - If you need tools for more efficient content creation, look at what your chosen software has in the way of AI image and text generation features. Check what it has for templates, branding resources, and batch editing to help you decide if it has enough tools to make it worth using for you.

Other Marketing Features - Beyond editing your posts, you should find out whether your marketing tools will let you schedule, organize, or analyze your post performance. Some software also automates certain processes to make your marketing more efficient, which can be just as important as creating your posts.

Software Learning Curve - If you’re a solopreneur, you probably don’t have much spare time to learn new software. While some of the more complex options offer helpful resources, it can take too much time to figure out how to get the most use out of them. Promeo and MyEdit are much easier to understand and use immediately than a highly functional but difficult tool like Sprout Social.

How We Test the Social Media Marketing Tools on This List

Beyond knowing what to look for in your social media marketing tools, you should know how we test and select the ones we put on our list. Here, we go through the process we use to test and rank each product.

Product Testing - We try each product ourselves before we put them on the list. We use them to edit social media posts, try their text generation tools, and see how user-friendly each platform is. Then, we compare the different tools and see how well similar features stack up across the board before we rank them.

User Reviews - By looking at what everyday users say about the products, we have a better idea of the pros and cons of each one. We list the most common things people enjoy about them, as well as the most frequent complaints, to give you an idea of what to expect while using each one.

Publisher Reviews - Publishers offer more in-depth reviews than we can give you in one list, so they give us deeper insights into the software solutions. We use these to rank our products and discover any tools or functionality we may not have picked up while testing the products on our own.

Social Media Marketing Tool FAQ

1. What is a social media marketing tool?

A social media marketing tool is a type of software that helps you create, share, and analyze your social media content. Some, like Promeo, focus more on the content creation side with tools to help you generate and edit your social content. Others focus more on social listening to help you understand your audience and tailor your messaging to reach them.

2. What is the best social media marketing tool?

The best social media marketing software varies based on your business needs. If you’re looking to make content creation easier and more on-brand, Promeo might be the best one for you with its batch editing, brand kit, and image editing tools. However, if you need more social media analysis tools, you might want to try Sprout Social or Hootsuite.

3. Is there a free social media marketing tool?

Several of the tools on our list are free, but we recommend Promeo. It comes with extensive AI tools that you can try for free. Plus, it helps you keep your brand design consistent across all your posts and social accounts.

4. What is the best tool to schedule social media posts?

You can share your posts right from Promeo once you’re done creating them, making for an efficient workflow. However, Promeo itself doesn’t schedule content, so you may want to try Sprout Social, Buffer, or Hootsuite for that.

5. Is there software that will post to all my social media accounts?

Promeo has design templates for any social platform, including Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. You can share directly to any of these platforms from the software, giving you a one-stop platform for all your content creation needs.
