Stream from PC to TV Wirelessly

Even though your PC and TV systems offer great entertainment features, they are not optimally compatible. You can’t simply play a video from your PC to your TV unless you do so via an HDMI cable. But who wants to connect their computer to their TV every time they want to watch a movie.

CyberLink PowerDVD offers the perfect media casting solution. Below, we take an in-depth look at how to stream from a PC to a TV using the software. Download PowerDVD to follow along with this guide and stream media throughout your home.

How to Stream from PC to Smart TV

With CyberLink PowerDVD, you can cast your movies and TV shows directly to your TV using Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, or Google Chromecast. You can also enjoy your media on your tablet or mobile device using the PowerPlayer App.

How to Stream from PC to Apple TV or Other Casting Device

To stream content from your PC, you first have to set up your casting device. PowerDVD is compatible with the following casting devices: Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Google Chromecast.

To set up your casting device, connect it to your TV using the HDMI port. After connecting the device to your TV, switch it on, then select the relevant HDMI input on your TV.

Setup instructions will appear on your TV, which you need to follow to connect the casting device to your WiFi network and create an account.

After setting up your casting device, you can now use it to stream PowerDVD media to your TV.

Playing PowerDVD Media on Your TV

After setting up your casting device and switching it on, you can play PowerDVD media on your Android TV, Apple TV, or Chromecast. You can cast from both TV and PC mode.

PC and TV Mode

PowerDVD offers two display options: PC Mode and TV Mode. With PC mode, you can navigate your content using the drop-down menu to the left of your screen.

PowerDVD launcher

From this list, you can access all the content on your hard drive, including movies, home videos, and music. In addition, you can also access content from CyberLink’s cloud storage.

PowerDVD TV mode interface

Unlike PC Mode, TV Mode doesn’t offer Windows-like navigation. Instead, this option allows for easy TV navigation with a simplified layout and large icons, similar to streaming services. With this mode, you can stream YouTube directly to your TV, and you can use it to cast physical media to your TV, including DVD.

To cast from TV Mode, launch PowerDVD on your computer and select TV Mode. Then, using your computer mouse or PowerDVD remote, select the folder you want to access. Under TV Mode, you can select media from the following folders:

  • Movies
  • BD/DVD
  • Videos
  • Photos
  • Music
  • My Computer
  • CyberLink Cloud

When you locate the media file you want to play right-click on it with your mouse. Choose the Play To menu, and select your casting device.

PowerDVD PC mode interface

To cast from PC Mode, start by launching PowerDVD on your computer and select PC Mode. Using the drop-down menu to the left, locate the file you want to cast to your TV. Then, right-click on the file and select the casting device from the Play To menu. In PC Mode, you can also find the Play To menu at the bottom right of your screen.

Adding a PowerDVD Channel to Roku

If you have a Roku casting device, you can stream PowerDVD media to your TV using the above steps. However, before you can stream via Roku, you must first add the PowerDVD channel to your Roku interface.

To add PowerDVD to Roku, select the file you want to play in PowerDVD and select Roku from the Play To menu. If you are streaming to Roku for the first time, a notification popup will appear in PowerDVD, asking you if you want to add a PowerDVD channel to Roku.

Click on Install to open the Roku interface on your TV. Then, click on Add Channel using your Roku remote to add the PowerDVD channel to your Roku menu.

PowerDVD Remote

With the PowerDVD Remote app, you can navigate content from your couch using a compatible mobile device. Before launching PowerDVD and syncing it with your casting device, download the PowerDVD Remote from Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or Samsung Galaxy Apps. Then, sync your mobile device with PowerDVD by following the simple step-by-step tutorial.

When you’re using your PowerDVD remote, tap the round icon with the three horizontal lines to the top right of your screen. Then, select the casting device from the menu.

After selecting the casting device from the Play To menu, the file will load and wirelessly display on your TV. If the casting device doesn’t appear under the Play To menu, make sure that the device is on. The PC running PowerDVD and the casting device should also connect to the same WiFi network.

The Benefits of Streaming from CyberLink PowerDVD

The most significant benefit of using PowerDVD is that it can play formats that casting devices don’t support. Audio and video files you can play with PowerDVD include:

  • 3D
  • FLAC
  • DSD
  • AVCHD

With hardware-acceleration, you also have support for UHD 4k video resolution. Audio formats the software supports include DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.

You can also enhance audio and video quality with PowerDVD’s TrueTheater menu. This feature allows you to optimize various content aspects, including color, contrast, dialogue, and bass boost.

Connect PowerDVD Wirelessly to Your TV

The TrueTheater feature may seem redundant when streaming original-source media. However, these media enhancement features are highly valuable when it comes to home videos and other personal media.

Another benefit of streaming to your TV from PowerDVD is that you don’t have to connect your PC to your TV using a cable. Instead, you can access content on your PC or CyberLink Cloud directly from your TV using the PowerDVD apps available in Roku, Apple, and Amazon Fire TV. Access TV shows and movies on your mobile devices, such as a tablet or phone, using the PowerPlayer App.

To start streaming your PC to your TV wirelessly, download CyberLink PowerDVD today.
